Do you need a visa to visit the Philippines?
Answer a few quick questions and find out in under a minute.
What best describes your situation?
Is your country on the Philippine visa-free list?
π Visa required for: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cuba, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and others.
How long are you planning to stay?
Citizens of visa-free countries may enter the Philippines without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, as long as you hold a valid onward or return ticket.
You may stay for up to 59 days with a visa. Please check the guidelines and requirements below.
Visa-free travelers are initially admitted for 30 days. To stay up to 59 days, apply for an extension at the Bureau of Immigration before your 30 days expire.
Most visa-free nationals don't need to apply for a visa abroad. Enter on a 30-day stamp, then extend repeatedly at the Bureau of Immigration β up to 36 months total in some cases.
If your country is not on the visa-free list, you must obtain a Philippine visa from the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt before traveling.
Requirements vary β always confirm with your nearest Philippine Embassy / Consulate.
Which Balikbayan category applies to you?
As a former Filipino citizen, you may enter the Philippines without a visa and stay for up to one year under the Balikbayan privilege (RA 6768 as amended).
If you also hold a Philippine passport, consult the Bureau of Immigration for dual citizenship concerns.
Are you traveling together with your Filipino / former Filipino spouse?
As a foreign spouse from a visa-free country (check list here) of a Filipino or former Filipino citizen, you are covered by the Balikbayan privilege when you arrive together with your qualifying spouse. You may stay for up to one (1) year without a visa.
π The privilege applies only when entering together with your qualifying spouse. After one year, extend through the Bureau of Immigration or apply for a Long-Stay Visitor Visa Extension (LSVVE).
π Foreign spouses from a visa-required country are unable to avail the Balikbayan Privilege
The privilege for foreign spouses requires that you enter together with your Filipino or former Filipino spouse. Arriving separately means standard visa rules for your nationality apply.
1. Coordinate travel to arrive together and use the Balikbayan privilege.
2. If from a visa-free country, enter as a regular visitor (30 days visa free, or apply at the Philippine Consulate General for stays up to 59 days or extend at the nearest Bureau of Immigration office).
3. If from a visa-required country, apply at the Philippine Consulate General before travel.
4. Consider a 13(a) Non-Quota Immigrant Visa if married to a Filipino citizen β this allows long-term residence.
Children who accompany a qualifying Balikbayan parent are typically covered and may stay up to one year visa-free.
Visa rules for volunteers depend on your nationality, duration of stay, and whether your organization is accredited with Philippine authorities.
π Short-term (<30 days, visa-free national): Enter as a regular visitor β no special visa needed.
