Top German and Slovenian Leaders Open World’s Largest Book Fair in Frankfurt with High-Level PH Delegation in Attendance

October 19, 2023

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar and German Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth, led the official opening ceremony of the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair at Messe Frankfurt’s Congress Center and the Slovenia Guest of Honour Pavillion. Under the Fair’s theme “And the story goes on,” and Slovenia Guest of Honor motto “Honeycomb of Words,” the world’s largest book fair hopes to put the focus back on FBM’s 75th anniversary as it emphasizes the power of books and the Fair as a platform for “honoring democratic discourse and promoting peaceful exchange in unpeaceful times.” Meanwhile, in her remarks, the Slovenian President emphasized the role of reading in the development of critical thinking.

During the ceremonies, Ambassador Susan Natividad and Consul General Marie Yvette L. Banzon Abalos led the high-level Philippine delegation composed of officials from the National Book Development Board led by Chairman Dante Ang, Department of Education, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Office Senator Legarda and representatives from the Philippine publishing industry.
