Philippine Consulate General Participates in Newcomers Festival Hosted by the City of Frankfurt

07 October 2023 – Held annually since 2001, the Newcomers Festival hosted by the City of Frankfurt is an informative fair designed for newly-arrived expats and migrants to help them overcome the transitional phase and cultural differences, as well as help them adjust to their new home. Consulate representatives led by Deputy Consul General Rogelio Villanueva, Jr. welcomed Filipinos who recently arrived in Germany for work and family reunification.

As a family-oriented exhibition fair of essential services and organizations for newly-arrived residents of Frankfurt, the Newcomers Festival, held in the Rathaus, hosts every year around 60 exhibitors from different industries such as relocation companies, international schools, health insurances, banking and finance, driving and language schools, non-profit organizations, clubs, museums, theaters, tourism and many more. A Diplomatic Corner has been provided for Consulates and Foreign Missions to enable them to meet and assist their constituents.

Role of Filipino-Germans in Igniting the Philippine Cinema’s Global Recognition Emphasized During Pinoy Short Films Screening in Frankfurt

4 October 2023 – As part of its efforts to promote the Philippine creative industries, the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt, in collaboration with Bipolaroid Film Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering local Filipino indie filmmakers, conducted a film-showing/discussion event featuring three Cinemalaya short films, “Home Credit,” “Beauty Queen” and “Heist School.” Mr. Brian Borutta, one of Bipolaroid’s board of directors, made a presentation on the topic “Empowering Pinoy Indie Films and Creative Industries: The Role of Filipinos in Germany.” The event delved into the challenges and opportunities facing Pinoy indie films, including need for international recognition, the role of overseas Filipinos in promoting and supporting these films, and the potential economic benefits of a thriving creative industry. He particularly emphasized the significant role of the Filipino-German community in empowering and elevating Pinoy indie films on the global stage.
The short film “Beauty Queen,” awarded as the Best Film of Cinemalaya 2022, is a compelling bio-pic of Kapampangan war hero, Kumander Remedios Gomez. Meanwhile, “Heist School,” explored on themes of friendship, resiliency, and street smarts. The third film “Home Credit,” is a comedy film about the burdens of taking on loans. END

Knights of Rizal Supreme Archivist Retraces Rizal’s Footsteps in Heidelberg and Wilhelmsfeld

28 Sept 2023 – Sir Ferdinand Suba KGCR, Supreme Archivist of the Knights of Rizal visited landmarks and places where national hero Dr. Jose Rizal stayed in Heidelberg and Wilhelmsfeld while studying and completing his novel Noli Me Tangere in Germany. He was joined by Wilhelmsfeld Mayor Dr. Tobias Dangel, Sir Kurt Heinrich, Deputy Commander of KOR-Wilhelmsfeld-Heidelberg Chapter and Deputy Consul General Rogelio Villanueva, Jr.
